Who are we?

A community of priests and deacons

The Community of Saint Martin, founded in 1976, is a community of priests and deacons living their ministry in community.
Having received its first statutes from the Church, in 1979, since 2000 it has been a “public clerical association” (i.e. composed of priests and deacons) of pontifical right (i.e. directly dependent on the Holy See).

The Community's mission at the service of the Church

To enable its members to live the priestly and diaconal ministry according to a form of common life, in line with the recommendations of the Second Vatican Council (Decree Presbyterorum Ordinis, no. 8).
To train priests and deacons, within its House of Formation, in order to make them a « mobile body prepared for diocesan ministry or any other more particular missions entrusted to them by the bishops » (Statutes of the Community).
To offer formation – initial and ongoing – and a programme of life to foster the holiness of its members, in the exercise of their ministry and union ‘among themselves and with the bishop and his presbyterate’.

The Saint-Martin Community responds to requests from bishops who wish to call upon it. Depending on the mission defined and the charism of each member, the members of the community place themselves at the service of parishes, shrines, the education of young people or any other need of the faithful.

They exercise their ministry in a community of life (at least three). On a daily basis, to best serve the good of the faithful, this common life supports the fidelity of their prayer, cultivates a fraternal spirit among them and gives them solidarity in their mission.

In a spirit of service to the universal Church, mobile from one diocese to another according to their successive appointments, they choose to make themselves available wherever they are sent.

Living the spirituality of the liturgy and Gregorian chant, they are committed to passing on the depth of the Church’s liturgical life.
